Start at Place Garibaldi, easily reached by tram line 2 Garibaldi station, follow Rue Catherine Ségurane along the foot of Castle Hill. Once known mainly for its antique dealers, the area has become a lovely neighbourhood to explore on foot, with art galleries, antique shops, independent boutiques, cafés and restaurants. Take time to browse the Village Ségurane and, closer to the port, the wonderfully eclectic Puces de Nice flea market.
Along the way, discover the exquisite creations of pastry chef Julien Dugourd, stop for brunch at Chez les Garçons, or enjoy natural wines and delicious seasonal plates at Rouge.
Then continue down to Port Lympia, with its colourful façades, traditional boats and lively Mediterranean atmosphere. Visit Confiserie Florian, where you can discover locally made sweets, candied fruits, jams and other specialities from the region.
And if you would like to taste one of Nice’s most traditional street dishes, walk a little further behind Notre-Dame-du-Port, the church facing the harbour, to find Chez Pipo, a local institution where you can enjoy freshly baked socca.
