Walks & Strolls in Nice & the French Riviera

From City Streets to Coastal Paths.

This page brings together a selection of my favourite walks and strolls, from colourful neighbourhoods and peaceful city streets
to scenic coastal paths and routes through the surrounding hills.
Along the way, I also share a few places worth stopping for a café, a local speciality, a beautiful view, an artisan shop or simply a spot where it is lovely to slow down and enjoy the atmosphere. These walks are not intended as strict itineraries, but as invitations to explore Nice and the French Riviera at your own pace.

Rue Catherine Ségurane & the Port of Nice

A leisurely city stroll with boutiques, art galleries & gourmet treats
Start at Place Garibaldi, easily reached by tram line 2 Garibaldi station, then follow Rue Catherine Ségurane along the foot of Castle Hill towards the Port.
Once known mainly for its antique dealers, the area has become a lively and stylish neighbourhood filled with art galleries, antique shops, independent boutiques, cafés and restaurants.
Along the way:

Pâtisserie Julien Dugourd: stop to discover the refined creations of one of Nice’s most talented pastry chefs.
Village Ségurane: browse antique dealers, art galleries, decorative arts and independent shops.
Chez les Garçons: a charming place for brunch, lunch, coffee or homemade pastries.
Rouge: enjoy natural wines and delicious seasonal plates to share.
Puces de Nice: explore this wonderfully eclectic flea market for antiques, artworks, vintage pieces and unexpected finds. While you’re there, don’t miss Joséphine Vintage, my favourite spot for women’s vintage clothing and accessories.
Port Lympia: take time to admire the colourful façades, traditional Niçois boats and yachts in Nice’s historic harbour.
Confiserie Florian: discover locally made sweets, candied fruits, chocolates, jams and other regional specialities.
Notre-Dame-du-Port: admire the elegant church facing the harbour, then walk behind it towards Chez Pipo.
Chez Pipo: finish with a socca freshly baked in a wood-fired oven, one of Nice’s most traditional and beloved specialities.Practical tip: this is an easy walk and perfect for taking your time, browsing shops and galleries and stopping whenever something catches your eye.

From Port Lympia to Coco Beach & Plage de la Plateforme

A scenic, mostly flat coastal walk in Nice
Start at Port Lympia, with its colourful 19th-century façades, traditional boats and luxury yachts (The easiest way to get there is by tram line 2, getting off at the final stop, Port Lympia), then follow the coast towards La Réserve Beach, Coco Beach and the Sentier du Littoral.
Along the way:

Espace Lympia. Visit the former bagne of Nice, now a cultural and exhibition space.
Café du Cycliste. Stop for a good coffee at this stylish cycling café and boutique by the port.
La Gratta. Grab a traditional Niçois pan bagnat from this much-loved local kiosk.
Club Nautique. Stop for lunch, a coffee or an ice cream with a beautiful sea view.
Plage de la Réserve. A lovely place for a swim when the sea is calm.
Le Plongeoir. Admire this extraordinary restaurant perched above the Mediterranean.
Coco Beach. Another favourite local swimming spot before joining the coastal path.
Sentier du Littoral. Continue along the rocks, following the sea around the Cap de Nice.
Plage de la Plateforme. Beneath the former Palais Maeterlinck, this wonderfully secluded spot offers spectacular views. On calm days, you can enter the clear water using the metal ladders. The setting feels surprisingly wild and peaceful for somewhere so close to central Nice.
Practical tip: Near the end, do not take the long staircase climbing up on your left; stay beside the sea to reach the Plateforme. Avoid this walk in rain, strong wind or rough seas, as parts of the path can become wet or covered by waves. Return to the port of Nice by the same path.

Place Masséna, Promenade des Anglais & the Negresco

An easy, elegant seaside stroll with gardens, iconic architecture & beautiful views over the Baie des Anges
Start at Place Masséna, Nice’s most iconic central square, easily reached by tram line 1, Masséna station.
Admire its red façades, arcades, black-and-white paving, the illuminated figures perched high above the square (Jaume Plensa’s art installation) and the Fontaine du Soleil, then walk through the leafy Jardin Albert 1er towards the sea (on your right when standing in the middle of the square facing the fountain).
When you reach the Promenade des Anglais, turn right (facing the sea) and follow the waterfront towards the Negresco, enjoying magnificent views over the Baie des Anges and the Mediterranean.
Along the way:

Gina café and restaurant, Place Masséna: start with a coffee on the terrace and enjoy the atmosphere of the square.
Jardin Albert 1er: one of Nice’s oldest public gardens, with Bernar Venet’s monumental Arc 115°5.
Promenade des Anglais: stroll beside the sea and admire the views across the bay.
Palais de la Méditerranée: look up at its impressive Art Deco façade, dating from 1929.
Masséna Museum: a magnificent Belle Époque villa built between 1898 and 1901. Even if you do not visit the museum, its elegant gardens are worth a short detour.
Negresco: finish the seaside part of the walk at Nice’s legendary palace hotel, inaugurated in 1913, with its unmistakable pink dome. If you have the chance, step inside past the wonderfully dressed doormen and admire the spectacular Baccarat crystal chandelier in the Salon Royal. If you fancy a drink, enjoy a cocktail in the hotel’s wonderfully atmospheric historic bar.

For the return, leave the seafront and walk back towards Place Masséna through Nice’s lively pedestrian zone, running parallel to the Promenade des Anglais just one street inland.
Follow Rue de France and Rue Masséna, lined with boutiques, cafés and terraces.
Practical tip: this is an easy, almost entirely flat walk and particularly lovely in the late afternoon, when the light over the Baie des Anges becomes softer.
